The "first look" involves capturing the moment when a couple first sees each other on their wedding day in all their wedding clothes before their wedding ceremony. It is a private moment for the couple, away from the eyes of family and friends, and it is one of my favorite things to capture. Now, not everyone wants to do a first look, and that's fine! But for those who do - here are some of the reasons I think it's a fun idea! 1. You get to see each other before the actual wedding ceremony! Here in Utah, a lot of couples are married, or "sealed," in an LDS temple, which is when the couple first sees each other, and photography is not allowed. And in a traditional ceremony, the couple often sees each other first when the bride is walking down the aisle, with friends and family lining the chairs on either side of the aisle. A first look allows you both to just be together and enjoy seeing each other in your wedding clothes without any pressure or interference from guests or other factors. 2. You get to savor the moment. When you do a first look prior to the wedding day or even just earlier on in the day before your ceremony, you can take all the time you want to soak it in. If you want to laugh together, cry, have a little dance together...you can do it all! You have much longer than a quick walk down the aisle to appreciate how dapper and beautiful you both look and you can just be yourselves! Bonus - I'll capture it all on camera! 3. More options for backdrops. When you schedule a first look as part of your pre-wedding day bridals, we can choose the perfect location and control the lighting. Enough said. If you're trying to decide whether to do a first look, consider the above. However, if you don't want to, I won't pressure you! Your wedding should be exactly how YOU want it, and while the photos are an important part of capturing that day, the most important thing is that the day goes how you want it to. If you have questions and are on the fence about it, give me a call - I'll be happy to answer your questions, but the choice is up to you!
