The lavender fields at Young Living Lavender Farm in Mona, Utah are one of my favorite places to take photos. I dream all year of spending weeks in June and July here, capturing beautiful families, couples, pregnancy announcements, and more! The breathtaking purple fields, the soft rolling rows, the incredible light—it all feels magical and completely unique. And because the lavender only blooms for a few short weeks each summer, sessions here feel extra special. Photo sessions at this location must be reserved months in advance and have an entry fee. As soon as dates are released each year, I always grab a handful right away because they go fast. It’s one of the most requested locations I offer—and once you see it, you’ll understand why. Last summer, I captured over a dozen stunning sessions here, and I loved spending evenings running through the fields, inhaling the delicious scent, and documenting priceless memories for my clients. What to Know Before Visiting the Utah Lavender Fields
If you’re hoping to visit (and do your family photos at) the Mona Lavender Farm, here are a few things to keep in mind: It’s about an hour from Salt Lake City. The fields are a little over an hour’s drive from the Salt Lake Valley, so it’s best to plan ahead with snacks, drinks, and a little patience—especially if you’re bringing kids. Reservations are required and they go quickly. Because the property is owned by Young Living, all photography sessions must be booked in advance. Make sure you choose a photographer (like me 😉) who already has reserved dates available before you plan your session. Peak bloom is late June through early July. This is when the fields are at their most vibrant, lush, and purple. If you want that iconic lavender look, this short window is everything. Golden hour is the most magical time to shoot. The best light happens right before sunset, which usually means sessions run between 7:30–9:00 PM during lavender season. Mini sessions sometimes start a bit earlier. If you have little ones, plan ahead for a later bedtime. The long drive home often turns into a cozy nap, which helps a lot! Dress your kids when you arrive. With such a long drive, there are lots of opportunities for spills, wrinkles, and messes. I always recommend bringing your photo outfits with you and changing once you arrive at the fields—it keeps everything calm, clean, and stress-free. The fields can be muddy after watering. Bring an extra pair of shoes or a towel just in case—it’s worth being prepared! Make it an adventure. If you frame this experience as something fun and special, your kids will respond so much better. Instead of focusing on “smiling for pictures,” help them get excited about exploring a beautiful place. When they feel like it’s for them, the joy and connection come naturally.
